Shale Marks, LCSW, CADC

About Me

I earned a Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree at New York University and a Master’s Degree at Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work. For many years I served as Site Director and Director of Outpatient services at SunCloud Health in Northbrook, IL.

My practice is deeply rooted in mindfulness, Psychodynamic and Relational Therapy. I also utilize spirituality as a resource to support healing when it feels like it fits for the client. I employ an eclectic approach to help clients who are struggling with complex co-occurring disorders, including substance use disorder, process addictions, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and trauma. My primary goal is to help people return to their natural state of wholeness. Each client has a right to self-determination and already has a great deal of insight to offer. My focus as a clinician is not to solve clients' problems for them, but to create the space for the client so that the answers can find them. I believe that each client is a whole person rather than a collection of symptoms. My compassionate and warm approach allows clients to feel that they are really being heard, understood and supported.

Sometimes life gives us a big shove and it can feel like our inner compass has been shattered. I can help you identify the areas of your life you would like to see change, the obstacles standing in the way of that change, and how to expand beyond the closed-in claustrophobic feeling that can accompany complex co-occurring disorders including depression, anxiety, trauma and substance use disorder, process addictions and eating disorders. Through your own inner work you can become a healing presence to yourself and others.

Coming Soon: Ketamine Assisted Therapy

Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAT) is a cutting-edge approach to mental health treatment that integrates the use of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic, with psychotherapy. During KAT sessions, you'll receive a carefully administered dose of ketamine under the supervision of a trained healthcare provider in a controlled setting. Ketamine's unique pharmacological properties can induce a profound state of consciousness, allowing you to explore your thoughts, emotions and experiences more deeply. This heightened state of awareness can enhance the therapeutic process, enabling individuals to gain insights, process trauma and alleviate symptoms of conditions such as chronic suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, PTSD and chronic pain. KAT offers a promising avenue for those seeking rapid relief and lasting transformation.

Individual Supervision

I offer individual supervision tailored to support aspiring social workers on their path towards licensure. With a focus on fostering your clinical skills, ethical acumen and personal growth, I provide clinical supervision sessions which facilitate a space for reflection, exploration and direct feedback. Whether you're navigating challenging cases, honing your therapeutic approach, or grappling with professional dilemmas, I am committed to guiding you towards becoming a confident and competent practitioner.
